— Ensemble III · January – April
Winter Guard.
Flag, rifle, and sabre performed indoors on a gymnasium floor — athletic precision, visual storytelling, and competitive excellence from January through April.
— What is Winter Guard?
Sport of the Arts.
Winter Guard is an indoor performing ensemble that combines flag, rifle, and sabre work with dance and theatrical movement to create a complete visual narrative performed on a gymnasium floor. Often described as “the sport of the arts,” winter guard demands the same discipline as competitive athletics and the same artistry as theatrical performance.
The Bobcat Winter Guard performs to recorded music and is judged on equipment technique, movement quality, design, and overall visual effect. The ensemble competes in the Tennessee circuit and at WGI (Winter Guard International) regional competitions throughout the season.
Winter Guard is open to all students — no marching band experience is required, though many guard members also participate in the fall color guard during the marching season. Tryouts are held each fall. Contact the director for information on the upcoming audition process.
